Teach for America
Teach for America is a national teaching corps of recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools. Their mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting some of our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort. Phi Sigma Pi chose Teach for America as our philanthrophy due to the fact that we started as a fraternity for a Teacher's College. Becoming involved with this program is a great way to reconnect with our roots while continuing our dedication to scholarship and education.
How Alpha Theta Gets Involved
The Alpha Theta chapter strives to educate the Rutgers community and New Brunswick area about Teach for America. Some of our Brothers are currently applying for positions in the corps as a more direct approach. As a chapter, we hold events, drives, and fundraise to further support the organization. In the past, we have done backpack drives to send to different schools across the country. This semester, we also brought together a pencil case drive, stuffing them with many supplies every young student needs. |
